Database Administrator

Full Time

The ideal candidate is a hands-on self-motivated production DBA used to high performance environment on both OLTP and OLAP environments, backups and SQL jobs monitoring and troubleshooting, capacity planning responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, maintenance and security of the databases. The role includes the development and design of database systems strategies, system monitoring, proactively improving database performance. Planning for future expansion requirements and capacity planning, as well as plan, co-ordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the databases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide day to day database support and maintenance
  • Investigate and resolve database issues including but not limited to backup, SQL Agent jobs, SSIS packages, deadlock, memory pressure, file growth.
  • Monitor production systems and proactively optimize database performance.
  • Design and write SQL scripts to automate database management tasks where possible
  • Document operational procedures and processes
  • Install, manage and optimize MS SQL Server (In a SQL 2008 R2, SQL 2012, 2014 environment)
  • Perform troubleshooting and optimizing MS SQL Servers
  • Upgrade and enhance MS SQL Server environment to latest versions and patches
  • Provide after-hours on-call support on a rotational basis and as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with SQL Server installations and configurations for stand-alone and clustered instances (In a SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2014 environment)
  • Understanding of file groups, data file layouts and partitioning
  • Experience with MSSQL Server highly available architectures such as clustering, mirroring, replication.
  • Experience working with Windows 2008 and 2012 Server, including Active Directory and disk configurations.
  • Experience in database architecture, integration and design
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server backup and restore concepts and implementations
  • Strong performance tuning and optimization skills
  • Strong understanding of index design and management
  • Strong understanding of parallel processing.
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server security concepts and implementations. Knowledge of NIST 800, ISO 27000 and PCI a plus.
  • Must have experience with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS and SSRS Web Services
  • Understanding of concurrency and locking concepts
  • Experience with SQL Server tools, including Profiler, Tuning advisor and Configuration Manager.
  • All other SQL DBA responsibilities as required.
  • Development experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Oracle, MongoDB, MySQL and Hadoop are consider a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; both oral and written, French is an asset
  • Experience using TFS and working on Agile teams are considered plus
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem solving, research and reporting skills
